Brazil: Center-South Brazil H2 September sugarcane crush seen up 30% on year: survey

Sao Paulo — The sugarcane crush in the key Center-South Brazil region is expected to total 36.44 million mt in the second half of September, an increase of 30.9% year on year, an S&P Global Platts survey of analysts showed Tuesday.

Of the 10 analysts surveyed, a large producer group estimated the total cane crush would be at 35.5 million mt, while a research department from a trading house pointed to more than 37 million mt.

Mills from Sao Paulo state were reporting that crushing season could end earlier than usual in the season 2019-20 mainly due to the dry weather that has been favoring a faster pace of the harvest.

If the cane crush estimate is confirmed for April 1 to October 1, it would reach 474.19 million mt, still far from the total of 575 million mt mostly forecast by analysts for the CS crop 2019-20.
