Bangladesh: If mills run, sugar industry will survive


Chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) Ajit Kumar Paul has said, “The industry of the country, particularly the sugar industry, will survive and the labourers will be benefited if wheels of mills will run. Initiatives are being taken so that the sugar mills will run in 12 months instead of three months. The initiatives are being taken aiming to reduce losses in sugar mills.”

The BSFIC chairman said these at a view-exchange meeting with workers and sugarcane farmers at Pabna Sugar Mills at Ishwardi in Pabna on Monday. He visited there to inspect the repair work prior to the harvesting season. 

Managing Director of Pabna Sugar Mills Md Abdus Selim presided over the meeting, while President of Pabna Sugar Mills Workers Union Sajedul Islam Shaheen, General Secretary Ashrafuzzaman Ujjal, industry workers Abu Taher and Abdul Mannan were also present at the event.  A number industry staff and sugarcane farmers joined the view exchange meeting.
